Fleet Management

Spend money to reduce costs

It is a well proven fact that the better the fleet management systems in operation, the better the risk management and the better the performance of the fleet in terms of accidents and claims costs.

The process begins, however, with fleet management. Most large fleet operators will employ their own in-house fleet manager, but many of our clients are not in this category of size and so for the medium to small fleet operators we recommend a fleet management company Ashbrooke Fleet Management.

What does a fleet management programme cover?

These are some of the areas of fleet operations that are covered by fleet management services:

  1. Health and Safety at Work responsibilities– DUTY OF CARE.
Many operators will not be aware of the duty of care imposed on them and their companies by a whole raft of legislation governing the use of company cars in the UK. Some of the relevant laws are as follows:
    1. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
    2. Working Tine Regulations 1998
    3. Road Traffic Acts
    4. The Human Rights Act
    5. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
It is imperative that companies to carry out a risk assessment of their drivers, vehicles and operating procedures, and all of these must be written down.
The car, whether owned by the company or the individual, is considered a place of work if it is used on company business.
  2. Car fleet policy and drivers’ guides.
These are essential tools in the management of a fleet. The guides cover areas of responsibilities of the company and the drivers. All operating procedures are clearly set out to conform with all of the relevant legislation.
The guides also cover the use of non-company cars on company business. They will also set the required standards of the company safety policy.
  3. Fleet Management
This covers a wide range of services including vehicle purchase, tax advice to individuals, maintenance control and procedures, foreign travel and Motor Insurers Database (MID).
The role of the fleet manager has expanded significantly in the last few years, and much of these new responsibilities are related to the health and safety laws. A fleet management company can ensure that all of these new responsibilities are properly covered and compliant.
